Inspect Light SUV Tires for Road Worthiness
When is the last time you purchased light SUV tires? When is the last time you checked your vehicle’s tires for proper inflation and wear or had them rotated? Many owners neglect the tires on their vehicle, but that doesn’t mean you have to too. By maintaining your vehicle’s light SUV tires, you increase your SUV’s miles per gallon, reduce maintenance needed on other parts of the vehicle, ensure safe and quick handling, and protect your investment as your tires live up to their full potential.
It’s a good idea to get in the habit of checking your light SUV tires visually at the gas pump. It’s even better to pull out a small air pressure gauge and take a quick reading to make sure you’re getting the maximum MPGs without sacrificing tire life. All tires have recommended pressures printed on the tire. Check the owner’s manual for your vehicle and follow any manufacturer’s recommendations when it comes to tires.
Whether you’re driving a small truck, SUV, or large car, new light SUV tires may be just the thing to keep you safe on the road. In rain, snow, or other extreme conditions, the tread on your tire can make a big difference in how your car handles. Tires that have bald spots, uneven wear patterns, or are just plain worn out can have drastic effects on handling performance. In extreme conditions, inferior tires may not handle the stress they are put under when you need them most.
While you are inspecting your light SUV tires at the pump, pull out a coin to check the tread left on your tires.
A penny can tell you a lot about the condition of your tires and may save a lot of money in the long run. Take the penny, put Lincoln on his head, and put the penny into the tire tread. As long as Lincoln’s head is at least partially covered then you’re driving on light SUV tires that meet the minimum requirements by law, 2/32″. The law varies by state so be sure to check with your local tire shop. All tires sold in the United States are required to have wear bars at 2/32″. These bars are usually a different color and warn you that your tires no longer meet the minimum law requirements.

Now, with 2/32″ tread left, you don’t have much protection from hydroplaning in the rain and you’ll barely notice that tread if you drive in snowy conditions. You’ll want twice the minimum. At 4/32″ your tire should have enough tread to let water escape freely in all but the worst conditions. Take out a US quarter from your pocket or vehicle’s coin tray. Turn George Washington on his head and repeat the penny procedure. As long as some of Washington’s head is covered, you have more than 4/32″ of tread on your light SUV tires.
Use your quarter or penny to check multiple places on the light SUV tires.
Tires should wear evenly. If tires are not worn evenly that could be an indication of a more serious problem with the vehicle’s brakes or alignment. Any tire shop will be able to help you identify any unusual wear patterns and diagnose problems that could be causing those patterns to show up on your light SUV tires.
Proper inspection, maintenance, inflation, and rotation of your light SUV tires will ensure the tires last a long time and that the occupants of the vehicle are kept safe. No one likes spending more money than necessary on car repairs, fuel, or tires. Save your money by using your common cents; a simple penny and quarter will help you determine the roadworthiness of your vehicle’s light SUV tires.>>>>CLICK HERE TO SHOP AT AMAZON<<<
